Fotona Nightlase Q&A

What is Fotona NightLase?

Fotona NightLase is a noninvasive laser treatment designed to reduce the effects of sleep apnea and decrease the severity of snoring. It utilizes specialized laser technology to tighten and strengthen the tissues in your throat, resulting in an open airway and improved breathing during sleep.

This innovative treatment is known for its efficacy, safety, and lack of downtime, making it an attractive option for people with sleep-disordered breathing issues.

What issues does Fotona NightLase address?

Fotona NightLase primarily addresses two major issues:

Snoring

This common condition can disrupt the sleep of both the snorer and their partner. Snoring occurs due to the vibration of relaxed tissues in the throat during breathing. Fotona NightLase tightens these tissues, reducing their vibration and, consequently, the snoring.

Sleep apnea

This more severe condition involves repeated interruptions in breathing during sleep due to blocked airways. Fotona NightLase helps keep the airway open by tightening the throat tissues, reducing the frequency and severity of apnea episodes.

How does Fotona NightLase work?

Fotona NightLase works through a series of simple, outpatient treatments using a specialized laser. The procedure involves the following steps:

Laser application

Your provider applies the laser to the oral mucosa (the lining inside your mouth). The laser energy heats the tissue in a controlled manner, causing collagen contraction and new collagen formation.

Tissue tightening

The controlled heating process tightens the tissues in your throat and soft palate, reducing tissue vibration and the potential for airway obstruction.

Treatment sessions

A typical treatment course consists of three sessions over six weeks. Each session lasts approximately 20 minutes and is relatively painless, requiring no anesthesia.

When will I notice results from Fotona NightLase?

Results from Fotona NightLase can vary for each individual. It’s possible to notice an improvement in your snoring and sleep apnea symptoms immediately after the first treatment. However, the most significant results typically become evident after the full course of three sessions.

The treatment's effects can last up to a year, after which you may need maintenance sessions to sustain the benefits. Regular follow-ups with your MD Aesthetics provider can help determine the appropriate schedule for additional treatments.
