Botox and Fillers Q&A

What are Botox® and fillers?

Botox and fillers work differently, but both produce results that help you look younger.

Botox

Botox is an FDA-approved neuromodulator that temporarily diminishes the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on your face and neck. The injectable solution is made from bacteria called clostridium botulinum and is the most popular cosmetic injectable in the world.

Botox relaxes your facial muscles to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and prevent new ones from developing. The MD Aesthetics team recommends that you start getting Botox in your mid-20s as a preventive procedure.

Fillers

Unlike Botox, which relaxes the muscles responsible for forming wrinkles, fillers are injectable gels that add volume to areas where bone, fat, and muscle have diminished. They reduce the appearance of wrinkles and folds on the face.

MD Aesthetics uses FDA-approved fillers, such as Juvederm®, Restylane®, Sculptra®, and Radiesse®. Each filler has a unique molecular structure, making certain fillers ideal for specific areas of the face.

During your consultation, your esthetician discusses the best option for you.

What areas do Botox and fillers treat?

Botox treats the most common areas: forehead, frown lines, crow's feet, and the wrinkles around the mouth and neck.

Fillers are best for augmenting volume in areas, including:

  • Cheeks
  • Under your eyes
  • Between your eyebrows
  • Around your temples
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Lips
  • Chin
  • Jawline
  • Hands

Your esthetician can treat you with Botox and fillers in the same session.

What can I expect during the procedure?

During your Botox procedure, your provider injects the targeted muscles in your face using a tiny needle. No numbing is required, and the procedure only takes about 15 minutes.

Your esthetician applies topical anesthesia to the injection site before treatment during your filler procedure to minimize discomfort. Then, they inject the dermal filler into the targeted areas. Your treatment takes about 30 minutes, depending on the filler used and the areas addressed.

It is normal to experience some numbness for several hours after your procedure.

What can I expect after the procedure?

After your procedure, it is common to experience some temporary redness, swelling, and tenderness at your injection sites. You can ice your face immediately after your treatment, as needed.

The procedure doesn't require any downtime, which allows you to resume your daily activities right away.

Botox results can last 3-4 months, and filler results can last 6-24 months, depending on the type. To schedule an appointment at MD Aesthetics, book your appointment online or call today.
